Newsletter June 2015

April and May were two busy months sorting through about 65 boxes containing medical supplies, clothes, toys & linen. Alina and I delivered donated medical supplies to the Wedauberek Clinic, a clinic in Same & a box of supplies went to assist a clinic near Hera operated by Australian Relief Mercy Services. During visits to the various medical clinics we have collated a list of specific medical & other supplies needs for these clinics and hospital in our district. Through the Lachlan Project our team in Parkes NSW are in a process of receiving medical equipment for East Timor, from the Parkes Hospital during the hospital redevelopment process.   A big thanks again to all those who contributed to the collection, storage, & transport of the donations that arrived in Timor early this year that have now all been distributed.KidsWithDollsSq

During the past two months in Weberek using the donated medical supplies that we received in the containment from Alpha First Aid Supplies, Underwood, Brisbane, we made up & distributed approximately 50 first aid kit and donated first aid kits to doctors working in our district of Manufahi. Every Tuesday in Weberek we have a Mother’s/babies group. Prior to distribution of the medical kits, we concentrated our teaching in the groups on home first aid. Each of about
35 mothers who attended the groups over a three week period received a first aid kit.

Thank you to Rotary Wishart for their recent donation of $1000 toward water projects in East Timor. 600USD is currently being used by the Wedauberek Clinic (40mins drive from Weberek) to connect water to the Maternity section of the Clinic. Sadly Orlinda, the senior midwife employed at the Wedauberek Clinic was hospitalized in Dili following a stroke on the 7th May. On 22 May we received the sad news that Orlinda had died early that morning. Orlinda was a highly experienced and hardworking midwife who will be missed by many. Please keep Orlinda’s family in your prayers.
